Audience is a group of people that you intend to write to. Audience can range from a wide group of people but it should also be specific. Knowing your audience can determine how you write your paper. At first I thought audience included the professor and any readers, which is a very broad. However, now I have realized that audience is targeted group of readers that I want to write to and covey the message through my writing.

  Audience determines the tone and the content of a paper by considering the possible readers that will be influenced. An exercise that really helped me understand audience is when we were assigned to write one topic to three different audience. In the letter targeted towards the professor, I used a formal tone and worded it in a more organized and sophisticated manner. However to the letter dedicated to a friend, I changed m tone and used an informal tone. I worded it in a fun and silly way in order to grab a friend’s attention. After this exercise, I understood how much the audience can impact your paper.
