Hello students,

I am Sonam, a former student of the Freshman Composition class. I never thought I would learn so much in an English class in terms of bettering my writing skills. This class has been the most useful class I’ve taken Freshman year. I was never a good writer and always took the longest time to just write an introduction. Since English is not my first language, I have really hard time turning my thoughts into words. For this reason, I always took such long time to even start an essay because I was always worried about my sentences not sounding right. However, this class made me realize the importance of drafts. While writing my first draft, I stop caring about sounding correct or having a structure. This allowed me to easily turn my thoughts into words smoothly. Then revising and editing the completed drafts writing less dreadful.

This class also thought me the importance of rhetorical situations. I began to notice almost all literary works use the rhetorical strategies. As the semester went on, I began to keep the rhetorical terms in mid while writing different type so of essays. This made it easier for me to write essays of different genres, purpose, and audience. My writing skills has improved so drastically since I began to use the rhetorical strategies. This is probably the only class, where the skills that were taught were actually helpful.
