Stance is your attitude toward a topic. Stance is shown in the way the writer’s choice of words and their tone. While writing an argumentative essay, your stance on a topic needs to be clearly stated or through the tone of your paper. Having a stance can give you a strong argument and a solid essay. If your stance isn’t present in an argumentative essay, it will sound very weak and readers will not be persuaded.

For my argumentative essay I wrote, “The deforestation of the Amazon has caused many negative effects such as increasing climate change, displacing indigenous tribes, harming the biodiversity and animals.” I clearly state my stance on deforestation which lets the reader know what the paper is about.
